This work is the result of a conference organized by the University of Lorraine in June 2011 to celebrate the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the death of Ippolito Nievo, a figure representative of the most emancipatory potential of the Risorgimento .

Given the historical and moral depth of this writer, this conference brought together literary figures and historians who agreed to play the card of the relationship between history and literature.
