The title of this mixed volume in homage to Denis Ferraris, Le rire et la raison, would like to recall the scope of his critical interrogation, stretched between the analysis of the terrors of conscience, of the often disturbing lucidity of reason, and these antidotes that are irony and humor. The authors of the contributions analyze representations and forms of Italian literature of the 19th and 20th centuries , but also writing practices, languages, iconographic themes, cinematographic works and historiographical debates. They all share the same pleasure for the game of writing that can never be interrupted, because what counts in this game is not to guess the exact combination of signs, it is to always try their infinite association.
